UH 4000: SURVIVING APOCALYPSE
My Name is Zoe Bruce and I am a music education major at Wright State University. I play the trumpet and participate in our trumpet ensemble, jazz band, and wind symphony. In addition to music I also work as a Summer Camp Director and gymnastics coach.
I have created this website for my UH 4000 Surviving Apocalypse class. In this class we are reading apocalyptic fiction, and discussing how, and why an apocalypse can occur, and the results of said apocalypse. This is also happening amid the COVID - 19 pandemic, which provides an interesting perspective to our discussions about the novels. In this website I will post blogs relating to our discussions of these novels and their relation to our world today.
Music Education major isn't exactly the person you would think of when you think "apocalypse blog," however music also connects to the apocalypse in many ways. Composers often write politically fuelled music in order to address current environmental, social, and political events or corruption. Apocalypse fits right into that. Especially during the COVID - 19 pandemic, the arts have been a key to helping people keep their mental health intact. I am wondering if with in these novels, if there will also be a connection between the arts, happiness, and survival during the apocalypse.
